”The Haliç Culture and Congress Centre is esteemed to be the largest and most modern culture and congress centre of Turkey. Built on an area of 65,000 m2 with an investment that equals no other of it’s kind, it is situated at the Haliç inlet, that forms a deep natural harbor known as the “Golden Horn”".
Haliç or the “”Golden Horn”" as it is named in most languages, has always been a historically significant area for all civilizations and emperorships. For the Byzantine Empire, it was the cradle of colonization and the centre for its naval headquarters to protect the city of Constantinople from naval attacks. Since the Golden Horn was protected with a large chain pulled across its entrance, it witnessed spectacular attempts to break or circumvent the chain, such as towing ships across Galata into the Horn over greased logs. With its Bulgarian Church, Pierre Loti Hill, old frame houses and historical buildings, Haliç is one of the places where you can still feel the ancient spirit of the Ottoman and Byzantine time. The Haliç Culture and Congress Centre with its unique location on the historic peninsula, hosted many cultural events within the scope of the “”Istanbul 2010 European Capital of Culture”" program.
As the first tango event ever organized at this amazing venue, the TanGO TO Istanbul festival milonga on Saturday, 5th of March, will take place here. The Golden Horn inspired us to name this evening the “”MILONGA GOLDEN HORN”". We will be dancing in a 1200 m2 salon with a lounge directly opening to the magnificent view of the shoreline. The walls of the salon are decorated with Istanbul mosaics whereas the ceiling is completely covered with glass, giving you the feeling of dancing under the night sky. Supported with a professional light and sound system, you will experience unforgettable moments with the best DJs and tango maestros.
The Congress Centre is very centrally located and can be reached easily. But to make it even more easy for you, there will be a shuttle service to and from the Congress Centre to/from three points: Taşlık Otel, Taksim and Sultanahmet. A parking area for private cars is also available.
